Building History

The Fletcher Savings and Trust Building has been a recognizable feature of the Indianapolis skyline since its construction in 1914.  Standing 16 stories tall it was unique at the time for its steel frame construction.  Designed by the architectural team of Arthur Bohn and Kurt Vonnegut, Sr, the Fletcher Trust building is an outstanding example of Neoclassical style featuring Bedford Limestone, and Crotch Island Granite facades.

The Fletcher Trust building operated continuously as a bank from 1914 until 1992, despite several mergers which on two separate occasions made it the headquarters of the largest bank in Indiana in both 1921, and 1954.  Several of Indianapolis’ more prominent business organizations have operated in the Fletcher Trust Building during its nearly 100 year history. Our photo gallery contains several exterior and interior shots from the buildings earliest days and many features are still present in the building.

The building has operated as the Hilton Garden Inn since December 2003 and with special attention to historic preservation of all areas possible, the building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
